Overview

In 1977, five hundred runners lined up for the first Spring Lake Five. Thanks to your help, the race has grown into one of the country’s biggest and best running events. Last year, the Friends of the Spring Lake 5, Inc. race raised over $300,000 for Spring Lake Recreation, the numerous volunteer groups that support the event and various charities. Funds were also used in conjunction with the Borough of Spring Lake to finish the work on extending the Spring Lake Boardwalk to enhance the safety of runners and walkers at its north end terminus.

The 2018 will be the 42nd Running of the Spring Lake Five Mile Run!

Registration Information

REGISTRATION FOR THE 2018 SPRING LAKE FIVE MILE RUN WILL OPEN FEBRUARY 4 AT 5 AM, AND WILL CLOSE WHEN REGISTRATION LIMIT IS REACHED.

Thanks to The Friends of The Spring Lake 5, a limited number of entries will also be available through charitable organizations. A listing of organizations is posted on the Charity Partners page.

Bibs – are mailed to registered runners in early May.

Bandits Beware! If you run the race with an invalid number, or someone else’s number and are caught, you will not be allowed to register in the future. If you are not registered and the race is closed, please consider working with one of our charity partners to gain entry. Unregistered runners are prohibited from running the event. There are Homeland Security and First Aid identification policies that we have to follow.

Transfers – If you are a registered runner, and find that you cannot make the run, the Spring Lake Five has a transfer policy in place; please send an email to SPRINGLAKE5@SPRINGLAKE5.ORG requesting transfer information. Transfer opportunities will be limited.

Strollers

Sorry, Strollers are strictly prohibited in this race. The crowd is just way too big as well as well as our insurance company does allow them.

Our insurance company policy below Safety - For the safety and enjoyment of all runners, the course is restricted to registered runners, wheelchair division athletes and official race personal. Dogs, skateboards, in-line skates, roller skates, bicycles, and baby joggers/strollers are prohibited. We also strongly discourage the use of radio/recorder head phones.

Headphones and Earbuds

NO HEADPHONES PERMITTED

It means all headphones and earbuds. This is a race with 12,500 runners and at times you need to be able to hear directions from course officials and in the case of an emergency you need to be able to hear First Aid and Police and Homeland Security announcements. We had an incident a couple of years ago with a runner who had an health emergency and collapsed on the course. It was extremely hard to get Emergency personnel to him because of the number of people wearing headphones and not being able to hear instructions.
